What is a Foreverly Take 2 Shoot? Well let’s have one of favorite brides ever tell you in her own words what a Take 2 Shoot is!

"Upon first hearing that I was going to be able to put my wedding dress on again, I was so excited. Although Tim and I had only been married for five months, the dress was still in my mind as we were at the stage where we were looking through all our photos again ready to pick some out for our new photo frames.

I was envisaging how I would feel when I put it on again...and when I did, it didn't disappoint - it just felt very special. I could see myself stand up straight with my head held high and I felt like a bride. Seeing Tim in his wedding suit also made my heart miss a bit - I was reminiscing about our wonderful day and the fact that we are still so happy together (even though we've been together for nine years!). The swish of the fabric, the sparkle of the dress and the train - you never forget just how special your wedding dress is."

Kate & Tim’s wedding was a very special wedding for us. Our daughter was just 7 days old when they got married! We thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of documenting their special day! To get to work with them again and see just how much in love they are was a real treat indeed!

Children's Modeling Portfolios–Yes we do them!

Ever wondered if you, your child, a niece or nephew have what it takes to be a model?

It’s a great question and one we get asked a lot! The honest answer is you won’t know until you try! I’m not being cheeky or vague but lets look at this from the idea that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

When you put people in front of a camera it changes them. Some feel right at home and are happy to play around and enjoy themselves while others freeze up. It’s a bit like throwing a ball, we all can do it just not as well as some others can.

So when it comes to you or your child being in front of a professional photographers camera you really won’t know till you try. It’s very important that the photographer knows children, is patient and has the ability to connect with that child, to disarm them and to bring out the personality of the child. Looking at some of the most popular actors and actresses it’s not their face you always fall in love with it’s them!

It’s not all about looks as much as it is about personality. Catching the smile is one thing but the mischievous smirk, the wide eyed smile and laugh, is altogether something different! The photograph should capture the personality as well. I would like to think Vanessa and I are good at getting our subjects to relax and have fun in front of the camera

Cherished Forever- A Cause We Believe In…

As Photographers, Vanessa and I want to do all we can to involve ourselves in our community and be apart of what is happening around us. As parents we want to take ownership in our community and be apart of what effects our friends and neighbors.

To that end we have opened our doors to charities and the Cherished Forever is one of those charities we absolutely believe in.

Why? The service that they provide is not profit motivated, it is a service that offers comfort and compassion to parents who have lost their babies, children and loved ones. There are no words of comfort that can find their way through the years. As sympathies are left behind with the march of time, just moving forward creates a void. What Cherished Forever does is march with time, offering the lasting remembrance of that very special life that was lost. A remembrance that can be touched, held and carried with but never replace the loss.

I had the privilege of working with Beth Hawkes the other day and I want to share her words as well as the work we did for “Cherished Forever” with you.

“Cherished Forever was formed following my husband and my experience of losing our son Nathaniel who was still born at 22 weeks. Having a lasting memory of our son brought us comfort during an incredibly difficult time and our personal and unique keepsakes remain to keep Nathaniel close to our hearts and that of our families.

As a charity we offer to help parents who are going through similar circumstances deal with their grief. We provide all the hospitals in the Southern West Midland Newborn Network NHS Trust, with beautiful wooden memory boxes containing identical teddies (one for baby and one for parents) with hand knitted blankets and hats. In addition we offer to create silver pieces of jewellery using baby's hand and foot ink prints, providing an everlasting memory.

We are in the process of setting up our website and as a charity we are always looking for help with everything we do. Rick and Vanessa kindly offered to help us with photography of our boxes and jewellery to display on our site. Thank you especially to Rick who took time out of his day yesterday to spend an hour taking the pictures and then edit them ready to collect today - talk about service!!

Fast Cars & Pretty Women

Some times a car really can make a big difference! Some people are absolutely in love with their cars and some people… not so much.

The “Petrol Head” as they are referred to here in the UK may not be a bad friend to make.

They usually know as much as your local garage man about everyday repairs that some how manage to happen after the garage has closed. They are quick to answer the phone when you call with a car question or need help diagnosing a problem or recommending a choice when your in the market for a second hand vehicle. So imagine having a friend that does that and is willing to help with all of the above and he lets you drive this on your wedding day!

Time is short…

One of my Mentors David Anthony Williams is on a mission to educate folks on just how important family photographs are. There is a slide show at the link above with his name. Please take a little time to enjoy it. After spending three days with him I can tell you he is one of the most genuine, generous and kindest people I have ever met. Vanessa & I share his passion and want to do our part!

I lost the person that had the biggest impact on my life a few years back to colon cancer. Elliott Green was a friend who very patiently taught me some of the most important things I have ever learned. A favorite question he always asked me was “life’s a marathon, why are you sprinting through the first turn?” He taught me to stop rushing past all the beauty in my life. To savor the days, hours and even the minutes.

When we look out every morning on a new day we should have a firm place to stand. That place is the past, who we are, who we were and who we want to be.

So how about committing a time to building your families place to stand? Yes time is short… make your memories timeless.

Digital Negatives- Do you know what’s on your Disc?

Color Correction! Do you color correct your photographs? If your asking “what’s that” or “how do you do that” you may not be aware of just how important that is to your digital negatives!
Yes I said Digital Negatives So you get a friend to shoot your wedding and they put all your images on Disc just like we do So far so good… well so far so good if they caught all the right moments, framed and composed your images properly and even better if they had off camera lighting to capture the best of you & your soul mate without all the harsh shadows of an on camera flash!
However… are those images that you have on Disc now in a format that has been color corrected, blemish removal such as dust or heaven forbid a pimple or two been tended to? Are they cropped in a fashion that allows you to use them or will you need to do some editing of your own?
The Digital Negative is the image you get on the disc – what format are you getting the negatives in? Maximized or just out of the camera? Everything in the days of film went to the lab to be processed and developed. Digital goes into the computer lab and is processed by the photographer of someone sub-contracted to process them. It is so very important to get those images in the correct format so you can print them and get the absolute best out of your photographs!

Memories & Photographs Keeping It All Together!

What’s your system for keeping your old photographs safe? Shoe box? Maybe a photo album where the photo slides in our lives under a clear cover that sticks to the page?

Those are storage ideas and do very little to protect your images at all, in fact the latter can damage them. When you pull the cover back often times it takes parts of the photo with it. What happens if water manages to find it’s way to the location of your shoe box or photo album? Good things are not likely to happen…

What is the best safest way available to store your images from the past? Not the digital images, the old paper images from long ago. The memories of Grandparents, Great Grandparents and in some very fortunate cases Great Great Grandparents are fragile and as time goes by and they aren’t protected the risk is greater as the paper and chemicals begin to degrade that those memories could be lost forever. There is one inexpensive alternative that stands above the rest and that is to digitize those images as soon as possible!

We do offer digitalization of photographs onto Disc either CD, DVD or Blu-ray for our clients. We also do photo restoration if so needed. The process isn’t expensive, it allows families to create collections of images and share copies of those collections with all of their siblings and relatives.

Sometimes you need a cold slap in the face to get motivated! Or alternatively you could do a turn on the ropes at Closer To The Edge! They are absolutely the best when it comes to running courses for team building and self confidence.

They have a few different experiences and a quick check of their Web Site will show you just what a great experience can be had. We went to one of their locations and covered an event by providing photographs of the participants as they participated in the confidence courses!

Family Photography Question

How many Family Photographs do you have that every one is in the photograph? Who is usually behind the camera? Mom or Dad?

Some one missing from a family photograph means it’s not a family photograph… it’s a photograph that has every one in it but a family member that is critical to that family and the composition of that family.

It’s really difficult to recreate moments when you don’t have everyone in the photograph. What the heck was Dad thinking wearing those pants? Or those crazy sideburns he had that year. The point is the person behind the camera should not be a person that belongs in the photograph.

I know there are occasions other than Christmas and weddings where the whole family gathers together and we cover those events! We love doing family reunions or family gatherings. It isn’t something that requires a huge amount of time. Each family has access to all of the images online and on disc and if each family is splitting the cost it really is a value you can’t pass by.

What is it that attracts us to just about anything we buy, love and wear? How it looks! Our business presence on line is no different. If you have a blurry or poorly lit photograph representing you or your business and company what does it say about you?
That you couldn’t be bothered? Because it’s easier to pull out your camera phone? But they should definitely consider you and your services!

Family Fun at Jinney Ring

Another fun family shoot at Jinney Ring! This family is one of the first families I shoot with Vanessa when I came over before I moved here. The Steads have three beautiful children now and there were only 2 when I first met them, well to be fair the little one was due so I guess it was 2 1/2 children

The kids are happy and full of energy and the two older siblings love their little sister and it really shows! When it came to getting the little one to smile they were right behind us making faces and noises and thanks to them we got some great shots!!

As I was editing I came across a shot that reminded me of something out of Harry Potter and of course it made me smile and that image and that thought stuck with me the whole time I was editing their shoot… so of course I had to mention it here!

There was a bucket as well that caught the attention of our subject and he had quiet the time with it as well… The day was windy but we really enjoyed our time with the Tapper family, and there is a good chance he may have a future in Photography

The Crane Family

On Sunday July 10th I got to meet the Crane family! We did a portrait shoot in their back garden and had a wonderful time with their daughters and both cats!

They decided to do their family shoot in the garden as they are preparing to move house and wanted to get some photographs their. Our homes are an important part of who we are and often times when we are sad or feeling blue we want to go home… usually back to where we spent a majority of time as a child or teen and usually we can’t. It’s great to have childhood memories and memories that are backed up with pictures help to remind us the details that may have been forgotten.

Christening For George!

July 3rd we attending the Christening for George and what a beautiful day it was! The weather was picture perfect and George was decked out in a Christening gown that had been in his family for quite sometime.

Traditions are what family is all about isn’t it? Yes his party was unique to him but his gown shares a history that will be passed on – just like his photographs. To be a part of his day is as always an honor and a privilege one that we take very seriously.

RYDELL HIGH BIRTHDAY BASH!

HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAT ZOE!!

Vanessa and I got to step back in time Saturday July 2nd and attend Zoe’s Birthday Bash at the Rydell Carnival. Rydell High School (featured in the Movie “Grease” starring John Travolta & Olivia Newton John) and as Zoe has seen the movie hundreds of times when it came time for her 21st Birthday party of course she chose “Grease” as her theme.

The “Diner” was complete with neon signs and the big attraction just out in front was a Carousel! A steam driven carousel and built in 1880 it was a beautiful work of art. Vanessa and I got to have a ride and for me it really took me back to my days as a young boy at Coney Island!

The bash was well attended by both the “T-Birds” & “The Pink Ladies” along with other characters from the film. This was such a fun event for us and we really enjoyed ourselves as did all of Zoe’s guest! There was lots of laughter, smiles and fun memories!

Just off of Route 66 was where this celebration took place and we are happy to share a few photographs from the evening! I am sure there will be a follow up post as there were so many great images from the evening!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZOE!

Prints! I Like Them Large!

I know I am probably not alone when I say I like BIG prints! The bigger the better and the tighter and sharper the image the bigger you can take that print. A large print on a wall with little satellite prints around it is a very cool look. Also popular is the family portrait with individual prints of each family member around the main portrait.

BUT… what if you had one large print without all the little prints? One print that had 16 individual images or a sequence of images that needed to be displayed together because… well because they just do!

You have so many options when it comes to prints these days, so many cool frames and so little wall space Why not design a print around the room it’s going to hang in? You spend months and months looking for the perfect sofa, and weeks on end looking at paint and trying to find the perfect shade why not design a print that fits the room? Why limit yourself to the traditional 10x8 or 6x4? Why not have a custom print that is 30”x30” and fits the blank spot on the wall and gives the room the perfect finishing touch?

It isn’t going to cost as much as you may think, it is highly personalized and you can design it from the photo shoot to the printing! Big prints give the viewer the ability to enjoy the subject and feel more connected to it than a smaller standard print in a standard frame.

Make your own Art! It really is a lot of fun designing a large Montage of images and once framed they last a life time!

OR…why not have a large print as a poster? We can mount your prints on foam core! They are light and easily moved from place to place and hanging them up is very easy! You really can fill a wall with personal treasures for not a whole lot of money and you can keep it current as well!

(An hour or so in the park playing with your kids and getting some great photographs sounds like fun )

Last But Not Least! This is an 18”x18” square design which allows it to be made larger or smaller to fit the space you are looking to fill.

You can have these made up for parties or special events! A client had a collection of family photographs made into 8 posters to celebrate their parents 50th Wedding Anniversary! They looked great and the family had some really cool mementos as well.

Family Montages

I have always loved creating Montages, using images to tell a story or share a group of images in one place. Often times you may only have a place for one really great photograph on your wall, or you may have several photographs that you really love and want to share and can’t narrow it done to one photograph.

These Montages that I have created are based on being a parent having a collection of images and limited wall space. So I took a few shots from the Best family portrait shoot that Vanessa did and came up with three different Montages or Composites as some folks refer to them.

They are for the family of course but as a photographer and editor of photographic images I chose these as favorites from a series of images. I also snuck one Montage in there that might have a sentimental twist to it Rather than embarrass myself and say which one it is I will leave it up to your imagination in the event the message didn’t make it through

We can do these for any of our clients or if you have a group of old photographs your trying to figure out something to do with them we can scan your old images and create something special just for you!

The Thacker Family at Mary Stevens Park

Vanessa and I met the Thacker family at Mary Stevens Park on Sunday the 19th for a family portrait shoot. We had great weather and the temperature was perfect! The two boys were active and having a great time playing as we photographed them. Mum & Dad even got in on the fun towards the end of the shoot.

We had a really great time with a really great family! We look forward to working with them and all of our Foreverly Families again in the not to distant future!

The Best Family Photo Shoot

Vanessa and the Best family met up at Hanbury Hall for a portrait session with Claire, Adam, Oli & Meg and what a great time it was! The weather was perfect and the children really seemed to enjoy themselves.

Oli & Meg played and had a relaxed fun time while Vanessa worked away without interrupting them or putting them into awkward poses. This is the style and approach that Foreverly Photography has always used for our family photo shoots.

We can and often still do the traditional posed family photo sessions. The feedback we received from our clients with younger children was that they preferred our relaxed approach and the comfortable environment we create for the whole family. The photographs of the children are more natural and capture the personality of the child as well as the dimples and grins!

Vanessa and I are both parents with children ranging for 3 months to 16 we have a lot of experience with children both behind and in front of the camera. We do whatever it takes to make everyone feel comfortable!

Albums Are Keepsakes!!

Wedding Albums are so much more than a picture album. They are keepsakes, a treasured reminder of a significant moment in time. A record of when your life was irrevocably changed forever! They are more than “Albums” more than just a collection of snapshots.

A Wedding Album is a keepsake from your Wedding Day! Something unlike anything else from your special day as it lives on. The cake is gone, the flowers are gone and someone else is riding in that limo! A physical thing you can touch, hold and share.

Vanessa and I design and craft each album and they are as unique as the couple we create it for. It is with a great deal of pride and responsibility we shoot every wedding. We are documenting our couples story, an end to being single and the beginning of a new family. The keepsake is the story telling with pictures rather than words of that all important day. We take that role very seriously and no matter whether our couple is ordering an album or not our approach doesn’t change nor does the level of coverage our couples get.

There are other times in our lives that are just as important. Births, Renewal of vows or commitments, Christening and Blessing ceremonies or any moment really, as everyday is special as it only ever happens once.

Having the high resolution disc is great but for a few £’s more you can have a keepsake of that day in your life that only happens once!

Blessing & Naming for Reuben!

Vanessa & I had the pleasure of documenting the blessing of Reuben and were privileged to meet his family and friends. It was a really great ceremony conducted by Lindsay Jarrett a Celebrant/Interspiritual Minister.

There were guests there from as far away as the United States! It was easy to see the family unity and the kindness they all showed one to another. My favorite part of the ceremony was when Rueben’s father Rhodes began blowing bubbles to natural response entertain him and keep him from becoming to restless! It was great fun and we really enjoyed ourselves!

Retouching Portraits Continued

Yesterday I posted the Portrait retouching that we do and have available for our clients. I said at the end of that post that I would post examples of more advanced editing. So as I have some time today I thought I would go ahead and get that post up.

I enjoy working in Photoshop almost as much as I like taking the photograph! One thing I have learned though is if your not starting with a great base image your not really going to be able to go very far and you won’t be able to get away with very much if your trying to hide something.

There are two types of retouching (in my opinion), one to repair and one to enhance.

The retouching that is done to repair is done to try and make a photograph that has issues appear as if it doesn’t. Getting the exposure as close to dead on is one of the most important things in making for a great image. Sounds simple enough but in a mixed light setting if you are using flash, a slow shutter speed might let in too much ambient light. Even though the metering appears to be correct it isn’t.

The enhancing retouch is one that allows us to bring out the depth of an image, lets us create and build on the image that we see in our minds but the camera can’t possibly capture. It is art. There are some extremely creative artist out there that use a camera to express themselves rather than a paint brush, a pencil or charcoal or clay.

A lot of photographers hold that an image is either meant to be in Color or in B&W not both. The way I like to get to the B&W is to work the color image until I am happy with it and then make the decision on converting it to B&W or leaving it in color. I feel like I get the most out of the image that way.

Retouching Portraits

Retouching Photographs these days isn’t that much different from the days of film. We took a roll of film dropped it in our cameras, be it the 110 instamatic or the 35 mm SLR and once it was shot, it was sent off to the lab to be processed. Some photographers processed their own photographs in their own dark rooms but certainly not a majority of photographers.

Today photographs are processed by the photographer more than labs. Just about every point and shoot camera comes with a software application to process the images. There are plenty of freeware applications to edit your images with as well.

The photographer has at his or her disposal a myriad of tools to help correct color cast, brightness and contrast issues and some times even focus. Each application has it’s own strengths and weaknesses and there isn’t just one tool in the box these days. Most professional photographers have a few programs that they use for different parts of their work flow.

One thing has not changed however… It takes time, knowledge and skill and the right tools.

At Foreverly Photography I typically edit all the images. I download and process just about every image file that Foreverly Photography takes. We have at our disposal some very nice tools and I have spent a great deal of time learning how to process our images to give our clients the very best image possible.

We do everything from Black & White conversions to Cross Processing here. Vanessa has some great ideas when it comes to images and how she wants them to look. I have ideas as well but when it comes to the higher end processing we are guided by the image itself.

The basic corrections applied to all our images are color correction, minor blemish removal and conversion to a format our clients can print. This is all a part of our basic work flow. On our portrait shoots we try to include edits that are above and beyond the basics. Not just Black & White but some processed in a more dramatic fashion.

We offer retouching on all of our work. We offer retouching on digital images as well as film images.

Additionally we offer digital processing from start to finish for the amateur as well as professional photographers and everyone in between! Anything from one image to a whole disc.

So just to give you the idea of what our advanced retouching involves I am going to share a few examples of portrait work only. The high end stuff we do for our brides and portrait clients will be shared with you at a later date.

The Prom 2011 & Special Events

Baby Photographs

Portraits of our children is something every parent treasures. I recall a couple Christmas’s ago my parents gave each of my siblings and myself a box of all our individual photographs. We spent a couple of hours going through our own box of photographs as well as each others. We all agreed it was one of the best Christmas presents we had ever gotten. As there are six kids in my family you can imagine it took a while to get through all of the photographs. There was even a family portrait we all chipped in and got for my parents one year as a gift was one I know they still enjoy. It hasn’t been lost or worn out and it grows in value every year.

While we aren’t timeless our photographs are.

Vanessa and I have obviously taken loads of photographs of our newest addition but we have taken many, many children's portrait's over the years. It is something we really love to do. The clients we have that come back to us each year share with us the growth of their family and it is a privilege to be apart of that.

Our approach to children's portraits is simple, we don’t stress the children out. We interact with them play a game or share a toy but they are never rushed to perform or pose. We know as parents making the child (or any of our subjects) feel comfortable and relaxed is the key to getting great photographs.

Well at least they are at Foreverly Photography! We know just how special your pets are as Vanessa and are long time animal lovers. We have photographed horse’s as well as dogs, cat’s and even a rat!

The Three Amigo’s that you are about to meet in this post are a long time client’s three canine family members. One of the dogs is struggling a bit with old age and all the inconveniences that can bring.

Pet’s just like our children bring a special magic into our lives. They are not demanding, love us in spite of ourselves and always make us smile on our worst days It is no wonder people treat them as they do their own children!

Why hire a Pro when a friend offers to shoot your wedding for free?

It is an interesting question isn’t it?

We hear often enough that” a friend of a friend wants to become a professional photographer so they have said they will shoot our wedding for free!”

They want to build up their portfolio with images so they offer to photograph your wedding for free! In other words they want to practice being a wedding photographer at your wedding and at your expense.

So why should you pay a professional for something that you can get someone else to do for free?

We have had numerous phone calls from Brides in tears because their wedding images are horrible, out of focus, shadows cast across faces, heads cut off and the shot that was never even taken. They all want to know if we can fix it? Sometimes we can, but Photoshop work is very expensive.

While the marriage of the couple is very important, the people that were special enough to be invited are also important. What of the guests that travelled such a long way to be a part of this special day? Most weddings turn into family gatherings, often family members haven’t seen each other since the last family wedding. Those are opportunities lost if care isn’t taken to document them properly.

When I think of the important events in my life, my wedding day is way up at the top of the list. It is a day I cherish and remember and look back on when days aren’t so bright and sunny, maybe when I am feeling a little down. Same with the pictures of my children. I want images that will stand on their own, not requiring a lot of colorful editing to hide all the mistakes that were made. I want images that are created and made by someone who works at his or her craft not just plays at it.

One thing I often wonder about is what do you do when someone who isn’t a professional ruins your wedding photographs? Not much you can do from what I can gather. You can’t “recreate” the day. Do you even tell the person? More than likely it’s something you will never forget about and it will always be a negative experience that represents your wedding day.

What about the digital retouching? Are they working with calibrated monitor’s? Do they have the right software in order to do even the most basic of color correction? As with film, digital files need to be processed. They don’t come out of the camera a finished product they need attention just like film did.

As someone who has photographed 100’s of weddings I have the experience and the equipment to handle anything that a wedding day can throw at me.

When you look back at the photographs that are meant to last your life time, meant to be shared with your children and their children and all you really have to remind you of just how beautiful the day was will it be worth it then?

One thing is for certain just because a professional wedding photographer makes it look easy doesn’t mean it is.

Our Favorite Wedding Albums

This year Vanessa and I added a new product line to our Wedding Albums. We are always on the look out for new and innovative products but about all we look for quality and companies that represent the same client oriented customer service that we have built our business on.

The Foreverly Line comes in a variety of sizes but our two favorite and two most popular albums are the 12x12 and the 14x16.
The 12x12 is a nice size album, it is sturdy and well made it will last for quite some time to come. It is a real value and we feel offers a substantial viewing experience of your images. Not to big or over whelming but definitely no light weight. The pages are bound in such a way that we have virtually no seam in the middle of the pages so we can design across the whole space.
The 14x16 is an album that offers us a chance to design across both pages giving us a 32 inch design space to work with! Tim + Kate = Excellent Love Story!

Vanessa and I photographed this wedding just 7 days after Elliott was born That’s how much Vanessa loves to photograph weddings!

She also did an album design for the happy couple!

Foreverly wedding album designs are done without the bride or groom having to select any photographs from the 700 plus images we deliver to our couples.

Why is this important?

Firstly, we have a unique insight into just how that day went and how our bride and groom reacted to each moment. We know what was emotional, what was special, what was touching and what was funny.

The initial design is done so our couples have a place to start, we don’t deliver the disk and ask you to choose 150 or so images so we can start to design your wedding album.

If we did you would have to make the time to sort through all those images! We know how busy newlyweds are we realized that could delay the production of your wedding album for what could easily be several months.

Once the initial design is completed we send you a link to the album on the web so you can see it, share it and get input from family and friends. You can look at when and where ever you like and really give it your attention when it is convenient for you as a couple.

Any changes you want to make are handled the same way, you let us know what changes you would like and we make them for you. An updated version of your album is then presented to you for your consideration.

You won’t need to make time for design meetings as we can do it all online! If you would prefer to have a design meeting, we would love to buy you a cup of tea, have a chat about what we can do to deliver the wedding album you will cherish for years to come!

While the blog has been quiet lately we haven’t been! We are enjoying our time with our daughter Elliott! I think we spend more time just watching her than anything else. We have of course been shooting and booking new clients. Vanessa and I just wanted to say Thank You to all of our loyal friends and clients for your support and thoughtful cards and gifts.

It is however time to get back to work and as this post will be followed by a post about one of our favorite weddings this year. Vanessa spent a little time designing an album of their wedding day and as always she did an amazing job!

On Sunday afternoon I met Bethany and her mum Sarah for a Photo Shoot at Lickey Hills It was a windy day on top of the hill but a beautiful day for photographs. Bethany brought along her aunt, her little brother and sister to help complete the day. Bethany has an interest in modeling and I thought she did very well as this was her first portfolio style shoot. It was an enjoyable day and we look forward to working with Bethany again soon as she expands her portfolio! We have found these one hour shoots really do help to boost a teen or pre-teens confidence and self image.

Vintage Bride

Well the past few days have found Vanessa and I very busy! Saturday we shot a party for the kids at Acorns which is a hospice care center for children. We found ourselves amazed and humbled at the work these kind and real hero’s do with these very special children. Acorns is a very, very special place and it will be the topic of a blog post in the next few days. We are excited to share this story with you and want to give it the proper attention it deserves.

So we have a wedding we did a little while back and we are up dating and pulling out images that we haven’t shared before and using some of our new editing techniques on them and I thought I would share some of them with you. Rebecca is a school teacher and she married Nick, who is also a school teacher! Their wedding was set to a retro vintage theme. Rebecca was stunning as ever!

Out In The English Countryside

A couple of weekends ago Vanessa and I were invited to stay at a friends house in the country. David and Michelle were the perfect hosts! It was a mini vacation for a day and a half but so very refreshing! The Sunday morning David and I got up and went out for a walk in the morning air. It was a little damp and there was just a hint of chill in the air but it was perfect for wandering through the English Country Side. The dog came along and was flushing pheasants everywhere. We even spotted a white pheasant and it was a real treat!

I brought along my camera (is anyone surprised by that?) and thought I would share some of what I got to see on the Sunday morning walk.

Something Different!

I love photographing weddings that is true, Vanessa also loves photographing weddings. But on the odd occasion we have sometime off we love to go to the zoo! Capturing images of the animals is fun and challenging in so much as you have to fight the crowds and wait for a good look or gaze casually cast your way. There is a down side to this though. It makes me sad that the animals are living out their lives in captivity and that can’t be any fun at all. The Cincinnati Zoo is one of the top breeding zoos in the United States. They breed to keep the species going and to prevent extinction. We try to support as many wild life causes as we can. We believe it is important for us, our children and the generations to come to be able to see these animals in real life, not just a photograph.

Ok, I will stop after these two! I have just had a great time editing Laurens shoot and as I am just about finished I thought I would put these last two up.

On the day of Laurens shoot she gave us a beautiful hand made Thank You card that she had done and last night I received a Thank You text from her! She is ever so thoughtful and kind and we really do look forward to working with her again!

She told me last night in her text her friends liked her pictures as well and we would be happy to work with any of Laurens friends on their own photo shoot and help them create their first portfolio as we did for Lauren.

Planning Photography Coverage for Your Wedding Day

Some couples book us with budget at the forefront of their thinking and who can blame them. In this economy it is tight for all of us. We appreciate that, the result is we work even harder to give our couples the photographic coverage of their wedding day that they want, not just what they think they can afford.

“Time is Money” but in this case “Time is Memories”. Booking a wedding photographer for 4 hours may give you the impression that you will have all the important parts of your day covered but maybe it is just as important to think about what isn’t being covered.

As an example - you book four hours of photography coverage, you may choose to start with some getting ready photographs of the bride. This would be followed by the groom and his groomsmen and perhaps some photographs with parents at this point. Next would be photographic coverage of the bride arriving at the church, the ceremony and then on to the reception for a few photographs on the remaining time.

Have you allowed time for us to take you and your partner away for some romantic photographs at the venue? Is there time for any group photographs of the bridal party, relatives that may have travelled long distances or you rarely get to see? Have you left time for photographing the speeches? The cake cutting? The photographs of your first dance together as a couple? What about a receiving line at the reception or candid shots with your friends and co-workers.

When Vanessa and I photograph a wedding (and I mean every wedding) we always photograph it as if we are going to produce a wedding album for our couple. It doesn’t matter if they have purchased one or even asked for one. Our photographic style is to photograph our couples in a fashion that allows us to tell the story of their day. The little details of the brides dress, shoes, flowers, special jewelry. The expression on a fathers face, as he sees his little girl as woman in her wedding gown are all parts of the story we want to tell for our couples. This gives our couples the option of ordering an album when it is more finically feasible if they so desire. Once the day has past all the memories that were left undocumented are gone and can’t be recovered.

Some couples think they can rely on friends or family members to capture these precious moments. But is it worth risking these once in a life time moments to the inexperienced, untrained eye that may not be looking for these things or even aware that they are happening.

We work with our couples to help them plan and get the very most out of the wedding photography coverage that they can afford. At the end of the day what is left? The limo is gone, the food has been enjoyed and the friends and family have gone home. So when you want to remember and re-live this most special of days you reach for your wedding pictures.

Looking back my youngest daughter turned 21 years old this week. It really does seem just like yesterday that I was putting her on the bus for pre-school. As we get older our memory isn’t always as sharp and keen as it once was. With photographs we have a way to recall all those times gone by. To share and laugh at the pictures of us in the clothes and hair styles of the time. One of my favorite times is sitting around with my family (all 5 of my brothers and sisters) and me and my kids looking at photographs from our childhood.

Vanessa and I had a blast photographing this family! The two girls were both cute as a button and great to work with. They were not at all camera shy and willing to play as we worked.

At the end of the day we have great memories and pictures only serve to enhance those memories. Family Portrait Photography is something we think is very important and every family should have a current portrait done.

As Wedding & Portrait Photographers, Vanessa and I love the idea of going out and just wandering with our camera’s and discovering some things new and some things old. Colors and textures as well as patterns that either occur in nature or are man made always seem to catch our eye. We stretch our creativity and use the natural occurring light as we discover little details in the world around us.

These adventures help keep our eyes sharp and our minds keen and help to strengthen our Wedding and Portrait photography skills.

We have made these into wall art and have decorated our home with them. The images are not the everyday images hanging in Art shops or Shopping Centers.

Engagement Photographs

At Foreverly Photography we offer engagement sessions, and most of our wedding packages include engagement sessions. The engagement session serves two purposes. The first and most obvious is pictures of the happy couple!!

The second and not so obvious is to give us a chance to work with you before your wedding day. At the conclusion of the engagement session we aren’t strangers any more.

We have spent and hour or so together and we aren’t just two people sticking cameras in your faces. On the wedding day we have found that this has significantly reduced the stress some couples naturally feel when working with photographers.

During the engagement session we have the chance to talk about your wedding day. We get to talk in depth about your plans and expectations concerning your photography coverage. It goes one step farther in planning your wedding day photography needs.

The Ring Shot

We really like doing a shot of the wedding rings for our couples! There is an important reason (not just the obvious reason) to have a great quality Macro shot of your wedding rings. We like to include the photograph of the ring in all of our album designs. They are the outward symbol that the whole world sees and they are unique to you and your partner. The rings that you have chosen are special to you and your partner. However, in the event something should happen (and we sincerely hope nothing does) you have a visible record that can be shown to a jeweler or an insurance company.

Worcester

Yesterday I had a special treat for lunch when I met with our good friend and fellow photographer Michelle Morris in Worcester. Michelle is an accomplished portrait photographer and is a long time friend of Vanessa. Michelle and Vanessa were the hugely popular Morris & Tombs Photography.
Michelle took me into Worcester and introduced me to Katherine Bujanszki owner of Beautiful Flowers (www.beautifulflowersbykb.co.uk ) The shop is located on New Street and is full of fresh flowers, beautiful arrangements and the perfume of flowers is soothing and refreshing. Katherine did all the floral arrangements for Michelle's wedding and after meeting her and having a look around her shop I completely understand why!
Next Michelle took me to meet Anja Potze owner of Anja Potze Fine Jewellery LTD ( www.anjapotze.com). Anja offers custom pieces that are works of art. Beautifully crafted rings, bracelets, ear rings and necklaces! Her shop is quiet intimate with the displays lit perfectly so as to appreciate the beauty of her work and is located on Friar Street.
As Vanessa and I establish Foreverly Photography here in the UK we are meeting new people and renewing old friendships. We are firm believers that personal recommendations are the one thing that makes finding wedding vendors, or vendors of any kind really, much easier. Trusting the details of a wedding to someone you know little to nothing about is very stressful. We think by sharing and introducing our clients to our trusted vendors we can help reduce the stress. We won't recommend anyone we wouldn't use ourselves. We hope that gives our clients a good starting place from which to work. We happily and quite confidently recommend Anja, Kate and of course Michelle!
