Memories & Photographs Keeping It All Together!

What’s your system for keeping your old photographs safe? Shoe box? Maybe a photo album where the photo slides in our lives under a clear cover that sticks to the page?

Those are storage ideas and do very little to protect your images at all, in fact the latter can damage them. When you pull the cover back often times it takes parts of the photo with it. What happens if water manages to find it’s way to the location of your shoe box or photo album? Good things are not likely to happen…

What is the best safest way available to store your images from the past? Not the digital images, the old paper images from long ago. The memories of Grandparents, Great Grandparents and in some very fortunate cases Great Great Grandparents are fragile and as time goes by and they aren’t protected the risk is greater as the paper and chemicals begin to degrade that those memories could be lost forever. There is one inexpensive alternative that stands above the rest and that is to digitize those images as soon as possible!

We do offer digitalization of photographs onto Disc either CD, DVD or Blu-ray for our clients. We also do photo restoration if so needed. The process isn’t expensive, it allows families to create collections of images and share copies of those collections with all of their siblings and relatives.

Prints! I Like Them Large!

I know I am probably not alone when I say I like BIG prints! The bigger the better and the tighter and sharper the image the bigger you can take that print. A large print on a wall with little satellite prints around it is a very cool look.  Also popular is the family portrait with individual prints of each family member around the main portrait.

BUT… what if you had one large print without all the little prints? One print that had 16 individual images or a sequence of images that needed to be displayed together because… well because they just do!

You have so many options when it comes to prints these days, so many cool frames and so little wall space   Why not design a print around the room it’s going to hang in? You spend months and months looking for the perfect sofa, and weeks on end looking at paint and trying to find the perfect shade why not design a print that fits the room? Why limit yourself to the traditional 10x8 or 6x4? Why not have a custom print that is 30”x30” and fits the blank spot on the wall and gives the room the perfect finishing touch?

It isn’t going to cost as much as you may think, it is highly personalized and you can design it from the photo shoot to the printing! Big prints give the viewer the ability to enjoy the subject and feel more connected to it than a smaller standard print in a standard frame.

Make your own Art! It really is a lot of fun designing a large Montage of images and once framed they last a life time!

OR…why not have a large print as a poster? We can mount your prints on foam core! They are light and easily moved from place to place and hanging them up is very easy! You really can fill a wall with personal treasures for not a whole lot of money and you can keep it current as well!

Last But Not Least! This is an 18”x18” square design which allows it to be made larger or smaller to fit the space you are looking to fill.

You can have these made up for parties or special events! A client had a collection of family photographs made into 8 posters to celebrate their parents 50th Wedding Anniversary! They looked great and the family had some really cool mementos as well.

Albums Are Keepsakes!!

Wedding Albums are so much more than a picture album. They are keepsakes, a treasured reminder of a significant moment in time. A record of when your life was irrevocably changed forever! They are more than “Albums” more than just a collection of snapshots.

A Wedding Album is a keepsake from your Wedding Day! Something unlike anything else from your special day as it lives on. The cake is gone, the flowers are gone and someone else is riding in that limo!  A physical thing you can touch, hold and share.

Vanessa and I design and craft each album and they are as unique as the couple we create it for.  It is with a great deal of pride and responsibility we shoot every wedding. We are documenting our couples story, an end to being single and the beginning of a new family. The keepsake is the story telling with pictures rather than words of that all important day.  We take that role very seriously and no matter whether our couple is ordering an album or not our approach doesn’t change nor does the level of coverage our couples get. 

There are other times in our lives that are just as important. Births, Renewal of vows or commitments, Christening and Blessing ceremonies or any moment really, as everyday is special as it only ever happens once.

We feel those special times deserve keepsakes as well.  We also know that during this economic climate that every penny is important so we are prepared to do more than just talk about it!

For a limited time we are offering a 6x6 album with 20 sides for £160 or a 6x8 album with 20 sides for £185! If you are already a Foreverly Client we can use the images we have already captured for you if you are a new client we will offer the photo shoot at substantial savings!! 

They are top quality albums produced by a quality manufacturer,  made of quality materials and we wouldn’t recommend anything that didn’t meet our standards! 

There are of course other sizes as well as types of paper and covers available for you to choose from.

Having the high resolution disc is great but for a few £’s more you can have a keepsake of that day in your life that only happens once!

Retouching Portraits

Retouching Photographs these days isn’t that much different from the days of film. We took a roll of film dropped it in our cameras, be it the 110 instamatic or the 35 mm SLR and once it was shot, it was sent off to the lab to be processed. Some photographers processed their own photographs in their own dark rooms but certainly not a majority of photographers.

Today photographs are processed by the photographer more than labs. Just about every point and shoot camera comes with a software application to process the images. There are plenty of freeware applications to edit your images with as well.

The photographer has at his or her disposal a myriad of tools to help correct color cast, brightness and contrast issues and some times even focus. Each application has it’s own strengths and weaknesses and there isn’t just one tool in the box these days. Most professional photographers have a few programs that they use for different parts of their work flow.

One thing has not changed however… It takes time, knowledge and skill and the right tools.

At Foreverly Photography I typically edit all the images. I download and process just about every image file that Foreverly Photography takes. We have at our disposal some very nice tools and I have spent a great deal of time learning how to process our images to give our clients the very best image possible.

We do everything from Black & White conversions to  Cross Processing here. Vanessa has some great ideas when it comes to images and how she wants them to look. I have ideas as well but when it comes to the higher end processing we are guided by the image itself.

The basic corrections applied to all our images are color correction, minor blemish removal and conversion to a format our clients can print. This is all a part of our basic work flow. On our portrait shoots we try to include edits that are above and beyond the basics. Not just Black & White but some processed in a more dramatic fashion.

We offer retouching on all of our work. We offer retouching on digital images as well as film images.

Additionally we offer digital processing from start to finish for the amateur as well as professional photographers and everyone in between! Anything from one image to a whole disc.

So just to give you the idea of what our advanced retouching involves I am going to share a few examples of portrait work only. The high end stuff we do for our brides and portrait clients will be shared with you at a later date.

Our Favorite Wedding Albums

This year Vanessa and I added a new product line to our Wedding Albums. We are always on the look out for new and innovative products but about all we look for quality and companies that represent the same client oriented customer service that we have built our business on.

The Foreverly Line comes in a variety of sizes but our two favorite and two most popular albums are the 12x12 and the 14x16.
The 12x12 is a nice size album, it is  sturdy and well made it will last for quite some time to come. It is a real value and we feel offers a substantial viewing experience of your images. Not to big or over whelming but definitely no light weight. The pages are bound in such a way that we have virtually no seam in the middle of the pages so we can design across the whole space.
The 14x16 is an album that offers us a chance to design across both pages giving us a 32 inch design space to work with! This gives us the opportunity to create designs that flow and are open allowing the images to breath rather than be cramped into a small space. The acrylic cover also adds impact and you can select the image for the cover giving it the ultimate personal touch!

Vintage Bride

 

Well the past few days have found Vanessa and I very busy! Saturday we shot a party for the kids at Acorns which is a hospice care center for children. We found ourselves amazed and humbled at the work these kind and real hero’s do with these very special children. Acorns is a very, very special place and it will be the topic of a blog post in the next few days. We are excited to share this story with you and want to give it the proper attention it deserves.

So we have a wedding we did a little while back and we are up dating and pulling out images that we haven’t shared before and using some of our new editing techniques on them and I thought I would share some of them with you. Rebecca is a school teacher and she married Nick, who is also a school teacher! Their wedding was set to a retro vintage theme. Rebecca was stunning as ever!

Family Portraits

 

Looking back my youngest daughter turned 21 years old this week. It really does seem just like yesterday that I was putting her on the bus for pre-school. As we get older our memory isn’t always as sharp and keen as it once was. With photographs we have a way to recall all those times gone by. To share and laugh at the pictures of us in the clothes and hair styles of the time. One of my favorite times is sitting around with my family (all 5 of my brothers and sisters) and me and my kids looking at photographs from our childhood.

Vanessa and I had a blast photographing this family! The two girls were both cute as a button and great to work with. They were not at all camera shy and willing to play as we worked.

At the end of the day we have great memories and pictures only serve to enhance those memories. Family Portrait Photography is something we think is very important and every family should have a current portrait done.
